Create PDF

1. Type a heading if your document has one. It is printed larger and in bold.
2. Type or paste your text into the paragraph box. Text copied from Word, Google Docs, an email or a web page keeps its line breaks.
3. Add pictures with the Picture button and choose how wide each one should be. Use the arrows to move any part up or down.
4. Pick the font, text size and page size, and check the pages in the preview.
5. Click Create PDF and download.

You don't need to add pages yourself. When the text reaches the bottom margin it carries on to a new page, and a heading near the bottom moves over with the text that follows it. The text in the finished PDF is real text, so it can be searched, selected and copied.

Pictures can be JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or, in Safari, iPhone HEIC photos. Phone photos are turned the right way up and kept at print quality for the size you choose, so a few photos don't make a huge file. Turning a whole folder of pictures into a PDF? A4 is 210 × 297 mm and is used almost everywhere outside North America; Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. If the PDF will be printed by someone else, use their size: printing A4 on Letter paper or the other way round shrinks the page slightly. Changing the font or size restyles the whole document at once.

• Start a new paragraph with a blank line (press Enter twice), the same as in an email.
• Tabs become spaces. Text pasted from a table lines up roughly, but not in exact columns.
• Letters outside Western European languages can't be printed. The built-in PDF fonts cover English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and similar, plus curly quotes, dashes, € and £. Polish, Czech, Greek, Russian, Chinese and emoji are not covered, and the tool tells you exactly which character to change.
• Bold, italic and bullet points inside a paragraph aren't available. For a list, start each line with “•” or “-”; the • character prints fine.

The PDF is named after your first heading unless you type a file name under Fine-tune, and it downloads to your usual downloads folder. A text-only PDF is tiny, usually well under 100 KB. Each picture adds roughly what the same picture would take as a JPG or PNG at print size.

To send it by email, attach it like any other file. If it's over your email limit because of large pictures, Compress PDF can shrink it, and Add page numbers to PDF numbers the pages of a longer document.
