Convert crore to lakh and lakh to crore for property prices, salaries, budgets and financial statements, with the full amount in Indian comma format.
1 crore = 100 lakh = 1,00,00,000
A lakh is 1,00,000 (one hundred thousand) and a crore is 1,00,00,000 (ten million), so one crore is exactly 100 lakh. To convert, move the decimal point two places: 2.5 crore is 250 lakh, and 850 lakh is 8.5 crore.
Every place from thousand to arab, with its digits in Indian grouping and its international name.
| Indian name | Digits | International name | Power of 10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thousand | 1,000 | Thousand | 10^3 |
| Ten thousand | 10,000 | Ten thousand | 10^4 |
| Lakh | 1,00,000 | Hundred thousand | 10^5 |
| Ten lakh | 10,00,000 | Million | 10^6 |
| Crore | 1,00,00,000 | Ten million | 10^7 |
| Ten crore | 10,00,00,000 | Hundred million | 10^8 |
| Arab (100 crore) | 1,00,00,00,000 | Billion | 10^9 |
The Indian system puts the first comma after three digits from the right, then a comma after every two digits: 2,50,75,000. The same number in international format is 25,075,000. The digits are identical. Only the grouping changes.
Spreadsheets don't follow a comma pattern you type, because Excel always groups in thousands. To show Indian commas, either set your system region to India (English) or use this custom number format in Excel:
It handles positive values up to 99 crore. For larger amounts, or for negative numbers, use the India regional setting instead.

Indian job offers are usually quoted in LPA, lakh per annum, which is the annual cost-to-company before tax. A "1 crore package" is 100 LPA. Monthly figures below are the gross annual amount divided by 12. Take-home pay is lower after tax and deductions.
| LPA | Per year | Crore | Per month (gross) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 LPA | ₹6,00,000 | 0.06 | ₹50,000 |
| 12 LPA | ₹12,00,000 | 0.12 | ₹1,00,000 |
| 25 LPA | ₹25,00,000 | 0.25 | ₹2,08,333 |
| 50 LPA | ₹50,00,000 | 0.5 | ₹4,16,667 |
| 100 LPA | ₹1,00,00,000 | 1 | ₹8,33,333 |
Indian cheques and legal documents spell out the amount in words using lakh and crore, not million. Write the largest unit first and finish with "Only":
Read the comma groups from the left: 2 (crore), 50 (lakh), 75 (thousand), 000.
Both are used. Indian English usually keeps the singular after a number ("50 lakh", "3 crore"), but "50 lakhs" is common too. "Lac" is an older spelling of the same word.
Arab (100 crore, one billion) and kharab (100 arab). They're rarely used today. Large figures are usually given as "lakh crore", so ₹1 lakh crore is one trillion rupees.
Every figure in the table has been divided by 1,00,000. A line showing 1,250.50 means ₹1,250.50 lakh, which is ₹12.5050 crore.
150 lakh. Multiply crore by 100, so 0.75 crore is 75 lakh and 10 crore is 1,000 lakh.
